Facilities at its 520-acre single-site manufacturing complex in Lyon Station, PA include four automotive battery plants, an industrial battery plant, a speciality battery plant, a state-of-the-art oxide facility, an innovative recycling infrastructure, and dozens of vertically integrated capabilities and other support facilities.
Just kilometres away from the main plant, East Penn owns and operates a wire, cable and battery accessory plant and a multiple facility distribution centre. An additional manufacturing facility in Corydon, Iowa helps accommodate widespread growth.
Our high-tech facilities and innovative computer monitoring and control systems have made the company an industry leader in advanced battery manufacturing. East Penn’s quality manufacturing is recognized worldwide and has met the global requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 certification standards. East Penn is also a leader in innovative recycling and has met global environmental requirements of ISO 14001 certification standards.
Full integrated in all steps of the manufacturing process, virtually every battery component is manufactured and assembled by East Penn for total quality control. Our employee-managed Lean Six Sigma internal quality control program specifically targets ongoing quality/efficiency improvement opportunities.
Every critical step in the manufacturing process is computer controlled, including paste mixing, grid casting, plate pasting, acid mixing and formation. These controls assure consistent high quality product, time after time.
East Penn has strict quality standards and tests at every stage of the production process. In product design, each battery model must conform to BCI standards on dimensions, terminal configuration and hold-down placements. In manufacturing, batteries are tested on the line to ensure quality according to Statistical Process Control methods. Every battery model also has documented performance criteria for in-service use, covering voltage consistency, discharge timing, recharge capacity, and lifetime performance.
Our vertical integration allows us to control availability, quality, and technology. Virtually every battery component is manufactured and assembled inside the plant using computer controlled processes for consistent quality. In addition, each battery undergoes in excess of 250 quality control checks before it leaves the facility, guaranteeing our customers the highest quality products and the lowest percentage of warranty claims.
